National Honor Society

ATEMS inducts first members into National Honor Society chapter

Thirty-one students from the Academy of Technology, Engineering, Math and Science (ATEMS) were inducted into the Academy’s first-ever chapter of the National Honor Society on Nov. 28 at Hardin-Simmons University.

In addition, the school awarded its very first ATEMS letter jacket to sophomore Matt Phillips, who earned his academic letter by placing first in district in UIL Mathematics last spring.

ATEMS, located on the campus of Texas State Technical College, is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in engineering and computer science. Both courses of study emphasize math, science, and technology using Project Based Learning (PBL) curriculum provided by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to create a network of New Technology High Schools. ATEMS is one of 82 New Tech Network high schools in the U.S. and one of 12 in Texas.

The new NHS inductees from ATEMS are all 10thor 11thgraders. The school opened with a freshmen class in 2009 and now serves grades 9-11. The first ATEMS graduates are scheduled for commencement in the Spring of 2013.
